Mathematics success at the Perse
The maths department has been very busy over the past couple of weeks, seeing many of our pupils compete in a range of maths challenges.
Senior Team Mathematics Challenge
Sam Seo, Alan Yang, William Drake and Jamie Bamber in the Lower Sixth represented the School in fine style at the Senior Team Maths Challenge on 14 November at the Cambridge Centre for Mathematical Sciences. A typical team in this competition comprises two students from each of the Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth so this team was breaking new ground. In a close run battle which came down to the very last question on the very last round, The Perse came a very creditable second out of 30 schools in the East of England region. We now wait with bated breath to see if we are selected to participate in the National Final in February as one of the highest runners up.
Senior Maths Challenge
84 students took part in the UKMT (UK Mathematics Trust) Senior Maths Challenge on 7 November and achieved fantastic results. Perse pupils won 42 Gold Certificates, 23 Silver and 15 Bronze. These performances are particularly impressive given the number of Year 10 and 11 students who participated in what is a competition aimed at the Sixth Form. We had a record number of students invited to the subsequent British Maths Olympiad and Senior Kangaroo rounds and we wish them luck with those on 29 November.
