Boys’ rugby teams continue their successful season
Our boys’ rugby teams are having a fantastic season so far. In the recent fourth round of the NatWest Schools Cup, the Perse 1st XV beat last season’s cup finalists – Northampton School for Boys – 12-3, with tries from Harry Hitchcock and Tom Sherrington. This victory saw Northampton leave the competition. Head of Rugby, Liam St. John commented:
“It was a tough clash to have so early in the competition. It was a nervous start from the boys but we were very strong in defence. We scored two breakaway tries, and they came at us hard at the end, but we were pleased to hold on with some heroic defence to beat last year’s finalists. We’re taking each game as it comes, and we can’t afford to get too carried away as we face either Oakham or Leicester Grammar in the next round.”
To add to this fantastic result, the 1st XV continued their run of success yesterday, beating Bishop’s Stortford College 50-0 at home.
Our U15 team have enjoyed similar success in the competition, continuing their season with a 12-10 victory over Bishop’s Stortford College over the weekend. After going into the lead 7-0 (Will Tyrell scoring the opening try), the Perse then managed to find themselves 7-10 down. The boys dug deep and Will Tyrell managed to get over the line to make the final score 12-10. Good luck to the team in the next round vs Robert Clack School next Thursday.
