Adventure Racing Club – Walden Tri Duathlon
20 Nov 2013
Over the weekend, 12 students of the Outdoor Pursuits Group; the Adventure Racing Club, took part in the 2013 WaldenTri Off-road Duathlon. The race incorporated a long distance run followed by a muddy off-road mountain bike ride, culminating in a sprint finish. In the Youth category, competitors took on a 2.3km run followed by a 7.5km bike ride and finally a 800m sprint. In the TriStars 2 category (ages 11-12) these distances were 1.6km, 5km and 600m respectively.
This is the third year that the Adventure Racing Club has fielded a Perse team and the weather made this year’s event particularly challenging. Wet conditions meant that the bike course was 10 minutes slower, on average, than previous years. This translated into a few falls and muddy pupils!
There were some excellent performances from the Perse team, most notably from Adam Gough in Year 11 who came second in the Youth Category. Congratulations go to all of the Year 7 competitors who completed their first competitive duathlon event, a significant and daunting challenge. The Adventure Racing Club will continue its race programme in the Lent Term with triathlon entries and the end of year Yorkshire Dales 3 Peaks Challenge.
