Viola Day at the Perse
The Music Department was celebrating the humble viola yesterday, with every pupil that learns the violin taking part in ‘Viola Day’. Over 40 violas from all over the county were gathered for this unique event, which began with a recital by a professional viola quartet who played pieces for our pupils from Vivaldi to John William’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The pupils then split into four groups to receive coaching on the viola, an instrument many pupils hadn’t played before. All of the pupils then came back together for a rousing viola orchestra concert which was enjoyed by parents. Despite only having an hour to rehearse, and many of the pupils having no prior experience of playing the viola, this was a fantastic performance and testament to the musical talent at the Perse.
