Sporting success at the Perse
This week we have seen a host of sporting achievements, from tennis to hockey and rugby to cross-country.
Our Year 7 and Year 8 Boys’ tennis team won the county round of the Schools AEGON Cup over the summer. This competition runs into the Michaelmas term, where the team (Alex Wardley, Ben Cameron, Vincent Chen and James Tee) recently beat Hitchin Boys’ School with a staggering score of 12 matches to none! This success means that the team has qualified for the South-East Regional final, putting them in the top 16 schools nationally.
Two of our talented hockey players have been selected to attend the High Performance Assessment Centre for England Hockey (HiPAC), at which four regionally selected U15 and U17 squads (Saxon Tigers, Pennine Pumas, Wessex Leopards, and Mercia Lynx) compete over a three-day tournament.
Tess Howard has been selected for Saxon Tigers U15’s and Arianne Dyball has been selected for Saxon Tigers (East region) U18’s as a non-travelling reserve. This is a fantastic achievement, which could potentially see them selected for the England U16 and U18 teams.
Our congratulations also go to the U12 Rugby team who were runners-up in the Finsborough Prep Tournament this week.
The School’s cross-country team performed spectacularly well in the county round of the English Schools Cross-Country Championships – they won all the races in their age groups!
These are incredible achievements – well done!
