Sixth Formers experience stunning new Othello
In the final week of term, 10 English students in the Lower Sixth travelled to London for a Shakespearean extravaganza.
As part of their preparations for studying the Bard next year, they walked through Southwark, along Bankside and past the reconstructed Globe Theatre, before arriving at the National Theatre to see a stunning new production of Othello directed by Sir Nicholas Hytner. The production, starring Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear, relocated the action to the claustrophobic confines of a desert military compound. Trapped within walls of concrete and with the drone of helicopters overhead, Desdemona had never seemed so vulnerable or out of place. The final scene and heart-wrenching conclusion left students and staff both mesmerized and overwhelmed.
All in all, a fantastic experience and incredibly useful for the A2 set texts.
