Sixth formers see Chemistry in action at local company
12 Jun 2013
Perse Lower Sixth chemists visited Napp Pharmaceuticals on the Cambridge Science Park this week to learn about life in the pharmaceutical industry.
Napp employees shared their inside knowledge about careers in the sector, showed the students round the facilities and discussed clinical trials, personalised medicine, and pain control.
The visit helped students put into context Organic Chemistry topics that involve synthesis of analgesics such as aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen. The tour included the Quality Control laboratories and the HPLC and GC apparatus – both on the A-level specification.
Napp has been bringing medicines to market for more than 80 years and is a major local employer. Many thanks to Dr Jo Montgomery and her colleagues for organising this trip for us.
