More than a hundred Perse pupils secured certificates in the Junior Maths Challenge, including 47 golds. Six students are through to the Junior Maths Olympiad in June, including two from Year 7 – a huge achievement. The UK Mathematics Trust Individual Maths Challenges are designed to stimulate interest in maths through lively, intriguing multiple choice question papers. The Junior and Intermediate Challenges are aimed at the top third of pupils in each year group, although all of our Year 7 took part.
The students who qualified for the Olympiad are, in Year 8: Jong-Ihn Chung, Hannah Lin, William Vinnicombe, and Conor Fairhead; and in Year 7: Philip Sosnin and Philip Jackson.
Gold, silver and bronze certificates are awarded to 40% of participants nationally in the Junior Challenges. The Perse tally was 47 golds, 28 silvers, and 34 bronzes meaning nearly 70% of our entrants secured a medal.
