Perseans star in Cambridgeshire hockey success

Four Perse students represented Cambridgeshire in the girls’ Under 14 County Hockey Team that was victorious in the East region championships. The team has a further Perse connection – the coach is Head of Classics Richard Morgan.

Year 9’s Ellie Harrison and Tess Howard and Year 8’s Anna Traherne and Sofia Baldelli were part of the Cambridgeshire team which beat Hertfordshire 6-5 on penalty strokes, following a 1-1 draw in the final, to be crowned East of England champions. Tess had the extra honour of lifting the trophy as team captain. The team finished top of their group with wins over Norfolk (3-0) and Bedfordshire (3-1), and then beat Suffolk 5-0 in the semi-final before overcoming Hertfordshire in the final.

Mr Morgan, a very proud coach, described the day as “a fantastic advert for junior girls hockey with an excellent showing by the Perseans in the team”.

We look forward to supporting more Perse pupils in the Cambridgeshire teams and congratulate Mr Morgan and the team on their fantastic achievement.
