Perse Pupils Star for Cambridge City in National Finals
The school’s links with local sports clubs are growing from strength to strength and none more so than our relationship with Cambridge City Hockey Club.
This season saw many Perse pupils turn out for City sides from U11’s through to adult league teams, with Year 13 pupil Hugo Batley being registered for the Men’s National League Squad. Stand out performances came from the U16 boys and the U14 girls – both heavily laden with Perse pupils – who had excellent seasons resulting in appearances at the National Finals.
The U16 boys, captained by Year 11 Mark Bishop, travelled to Wakefield HC over the weekend of 13th-14th April to compete in the National Finals. The team came up against top quality opposition and finished with narrow losses to Surbiton HC, Canterbury HC, and Preston HC. The team consisted of 8 Perse pupils – Year 10’s: Hugh Bishop, Will Harris, Anthony Kattuman and Freddie Perkins and Year 11’s: Conor Magowan, Mark Bishop, Dilip Goyal and Adam Crockett.
The U14 girls were led by Year 9 pupil Ellie Harrison to 4th position in the National Finals held at Beeston Hockey Club on Sunday 12th May. After finishing second in their pool following a win against Kirkby Lonsdale HC and a draw against Oxford Hawks HC, they lost the 3/4th place crossover match to Alderley Edge HC 0-2. Year 9 pupil Tess Howard was the star player alongside Ellie.
We congratulate the teams on their success and look forward to continuing the excellent relationship between club and school.
