Perse in Chemistry National Finals
Four middle school pupils represented The Perse at the national finals of the Top of the Bench competition, run by the Royal Society of Chemistry, at Loughborough University last weekend.
Claudia Tomkys (Y9), Thomas Read (Y9), Isabel Raynaud (Y10) and Daniel Jackson (Y11) won the regional round in November to qualify for this stage. They had to complete an individual quiz and then a 2 hour team practical exercise. The team performed exceptionally well and came a very respectable 13th place out of the 30 teams in the final.
The finalists then heard a fascinating lecture from the Head of Chemistry at Loughborough, Paul Thomas, which was entitled – ‘Scents and Sensing Ability’.
Congratulations to them all on a fantastic showing.
