The Perse School

On Her Majesty’s Service

28 May 2013

Perse pupils greeted Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh when the royal couple opened the revamped facilities at the Rosie Hospital last week.

Thirty Perse pupils were invited to attend the event in recognition of their fundraising efforts. Perse parents, pupils and staff have raised more than £15,000 for Addenbrookes Hospital in the last two years.

Fundraising activity has included:

  • More than £1200 raised by pupils of The Pelican by collecting conkers in ‘Bonkers for Conkers’.  Pupil Ethan Martinez McCune was awarded a trophy in recognition of the 11,004 conkers he collected, with a little help from his family.
  • The Association of Pelican Parents, together with The Perse Prep Parents’ Association, raised £3000 with a Rhythm and Blues evening.
  • Upper School pupils raised more than £2500 from a ‘£10 challenge’, where students could apply for £10 to invest in organising fundraising activity.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed being part of the celebration. Back in school, one Prep pupil remarked that the Queen was “smaller than I imagined’ and another that “she didn’t have any wrinkles”.
