Medals for Perse students in the UK Chemistry Olympiad

Perse sixth formers secured an impressive medal haul in the UK Chemistry Olympiad, with five Perse students placing in the top 7% of more than 4000 entrants.

Nineteen students were awarded a medal, with five picking up gold, 11 silver – of whom six were lower sixth pupils  – and three bronze.

Said Tanya Khimyak, Head of Chemistry at The Perse:

“This first round of the Olympiad is a challenging written test of chemical knowledge. While I’m delighted that all our students who sat the paper got a medal, it’s really very impressive for pupils in the lower sixth to be awarded silver, so I’m particularly proud of them”.

According to the Royal Society of Chemistry the questions posed often stimulate much debate on, and enthusiasm for, the subject and provide a good opportunity for students to develop some of the skills required for study at university and beyond.
