Students cheer Head of Hockey to national victory
More than 60 Perse students travelled to Wembley Area this weekend to watch the School’s Head of Hockey, Glenn Kirkham, captain East Grinstead Hockey Club to victory in the Maxifuel Super Sixes.
63 students and seven staff descended on the tournament with banners and face masks to support Glenn and Reading Hockey Club player Helen Richardson, who visited The Perse last term to talk about her sporting career.
Olympian Glenn, who in addition to his Head of Hockey role at The Perse is also Assistant Director of Sport, remarked that the support from students and staff was “fantastic”.
The high standard inspired the supporters, many of whom aspire to play at that level one day. Indoor hockey is a very popular sport at The Perse; boys’ and girls’ teams compete each year in the National Schools competition, a tournament they have won at U16 and U18 levels in previous years.
