Rowers Triumph in Head to Head
There may have been snow on the surrounding fields, but several hardy Perse pupils took part in this year’s Cambridge Winter Head to Head. This is a notoriously tough race, as crews race one way down the river, before quickly catching their breath and racing back the other way.
Angus MacDonald of the Lower Sixth impressively won the men’s J17 single sculls by 1 second, racing for his club (99’s) but in his school kit. He then jumped straight into the men’s J18 coxless quad, which had a very good race coming second in their category. The men’s J15 coxed quad (year 10) also put in a strong performance with an excellent time, despite being the only crew in their category. The quick times of the Perse boats ranked them ahead of many adult eights.
Upcoming races include the 2nd and 3rd legs of the Winter League on 17th February and 3rd March, and then the J18 coxless quad will be racing in the prestigious School’s Head in London on 7th March.
