The school has enjoyed some impressive debating success in the last few weeks.
A team of Lower Sixth students were triumphant in the ‘Debating Matters’ preliminary round held at Hills Road. The team – consisting of Daniel Adamson, Lottie Howson-Smith, Edmund Smith and Daniel Spielman – are now through to the inter-regional round held next term, with Daniel and Dylan’s speech described by one of the judges as “the best debate he’d ever heard in the competition.”
A further Sixth Form pair of Freddy Banks and Sylvia de Luca then won the English Speaking Union’s prestigious ‘Mace’ competition in Bury St Edmunds. The pair beat two other schools despite having to propose the challenging idea that ‘This House Regrets Hosting the Olympics’. They now progress to the regional round in February.
Finally, a team of Martha Bickerton, Emily Hart and Emily Neil could not continue the school’s winning streak in the Rotary ‘Youth Speaks’ competition held at The Perse last week – but were warmly praised by the judges.
