Summit 10 brave the elements

6 Nov 2012

The Perse Exploration Society Summit 10 group travelled to the Peak District National Park over the Michaelmas half-term to conduct hike training. Over the course of 3 days 30 students were put through their paces in a series of long distance hikes through the limestone valleys of the White Peak area. Each fire (patrol) carried all of their kit over a total distance of 41 kilometres.

Pupils displayed great tenacity and determination in the face of cold weather which dropped below freezing overnight. Alongside hiking the group took part in first aid, emergency shelter and night navigation training. The staff running the trip were very impressed with the students this year and look forward to working with them on the Easter expedition.

The Summit 10 group will be running an expedition to the Brecon Beacons National Park in Easter 2013 which will see students traverse the entirety of the National Park over a 93 mile long trek. On the way students will be summiting all three Brecon Beacons, exploring medieval castles, cave systems and taking part in white water kayaking.
