Indoor Hockey Success!
In the first year of co-education in Year 11, The Perse have won the Cambs Indoor Hockey U16 Girls’ competition. This is the first stage of the EHB National Schools Indoor Hockey Tournament, a competition in which The Perse have been crowned national champions on four occasions with boys’ teams at U16 and U18 level.
This is the first time the Perse have been able to field a team of U16 girls in their age group for this competition and a squad of six Year 11 pupils, captained by Rachael Harrison, were ably supported by four Year 10 students and 2 Year 9 girls, including top scorer Tess Howard.
The title was gained with the girls winning all their games, defeating Thomas Deacon Academy 3-0, Newport FGS 3-2 and Wisbech Grammar 6-1. This was a fantastic reward for the Year 11 girls in particular who have been training regularly since Year 9 and learning the skills demanded by the indoor version of the sport.
Last week the U16 Boys, captained by Adam Crockett, retained their county title, drawing with Newport and defeating Thomas Deacon Academy to win the U16 trophy for the sixth time in seven years.
These victories sent both teams to their respective regional finals to represent Cambridgeshire. The boys travelled to Bedford last weekend and continued their superb form to qualify for the nationals (more details on the website soon). The girls will be playing in their East finals at Colchester on December 1st.
We wish both teams the very best of luck as they aim to continue the school’s enviable record in this competition.
