Adventure Racing Club Canoe Training
13 Nov 2012
Early on a Saturday morning 9 students from the Adventure Racing Club set out for a weekend of canoe and kayak training on the River Cam. Occasional downpours and chilly temperatures didn't stop the students from giving there all in the intensive training course that took novice paddlers and shaped them into proficient canoeists and kayakers.
Pupils had the chance to paddle Canadian canoes (both tandem and solo) and kayaks whilst learning how to move at speed, turn, edge and ultimately how to rescue other paddlers. Concerted training was not all serious however with games interspersed throughout the weekend. This produced pirates, daredevil drivers and ducks out of our usually polite and well-mannered Perse students!
Pupils that have taken part in this training weekend will have the opportunity to race in Adventure Racing Club events, both in club sessions and representing the school in external events. Those that have showed exceptional promise will be offered the opportunity to take their BCU 2* award in Lent Half Term.
