Christel House School
18 Oct 2012
We are delighted to report that the link between the Perse and Christel House schools is going strong, we are very proud to be able to support such a worthy charity.
Christel House India enrols children from slums within 18 Km of the school. A prerequisite is that their total combined family income should be below Rs. 3,500 (£40) per month and support four or more dependents. Nearly 1500 applications for admission are received every year and from these, seventy children are enrolled at the Kindergarten level. The mission of Christel House is to help children break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society.
As part of the link a group of volunteers from Years 7 and 8 have replied to letters written by students from Christel House. It is hoped that students in Bangalore will develop their reading and writing skills in response to engaging stimuli. The 25 Perse volunteers are now working on a video tour of the school grounds, giving students in India an opportunity to listen to British accents and catch a glimpse of the life of a student in England.
As well as this the Perse Community Art group is delighted that the link with Christel House has seen pupils from both schools working in collaboration to produce art work for the Christmas Craft Sale, on Friday 7th December.
Christel House pupils have made individually designed hand dyed batik cushion covers, hand woven friendship bracelets and Perse pupils have made hand etched Christmas cards, fun headwear and Christmas decorations. Parents are encouraged to come and support this worthwhile cause as all the money raised will go back to Christel House.
