Year 11 Laurie Fabian continues to excel as this term he was once again selected to represent England at Korfball.
Korfball can be described as a cross between basketball and netball, and is a mixed sport involving teams of 4 girls and 4 boys. It was originally devised by a Dutch school teacher, and is now played all over the world – from Belgium to Taipei, as well as in England of course!
Laurie began playing in PE lessons at his primary school, and joined the Cambridge Tigers Korfball Club soon after. By Year 8 he was training with the senior team, and had been selected in the England under-14 squad – with whom he went on tours to Flanders and Germany.
Once in Year 10 he graduated to the England under-16 squad, and in February this year went on another tour to Holland. He is currently the tallest member of the team, which is an asset in the ‘collect’ position that he plays, trying to claim any shots from the opposing team that miss the basket. This year he hopes to be a major part of England’s progression to the Youth Talent World Cup held in Holland in March.
We wish him the very best of luck!
