The Perse School

Year 9 Race for Life

3 Jul 2012

Ready, steady, GO!

An intrepid, determined, and slightly over-excited team of 18 Year 9 girls and six staff from The Perse took part in Race for Life, Cambridge, on Sunday. The group has been training for the race in and out of school and was in high spirits as the warm up began in the sunshine on Parker's Piece. The girls proved quite a spectacle in Perse sports kit, tutus and fairy wings, immediately attracting the attention of Heart fm's promotional team, local press and photographers.

Not only can these girls run, dress-up and wield pink face paints successfully, they also sold beautifully-decorated cupcakes during break time at school on Thursday to kick start the fundraising and forthcoming event.

The race wound its way around the centre of Cambridge, over the River Cam twice, through King's College and onto the finish line on Jesus Green. Whether dancing, singing, twirling and jogging, everyone was in high spirits by the end – being cheered on by the crowds – and some even achieved a sprint finish!

So far, the group has raised over £200. If you would like to sponsor the girls, the link below will take you to the online sponsorship site:

Everyone involved would like to thank their families, friends and colleagues at school for their generous support. It has been immense privilege to contribute to such a worthy cause and we are already looking forward to next year!
