Girls’ U11 Rounders vs. Perse Girls
On Tuesday 26th June the Year 6 girls hosted some rounders matches against the Perse Girls at Porson Road. It seemed like a long time since their last fixture due to some weather interference, but this did not deter the girls.
The A team, ably captained by Poppy Lennox, lost their toss and so had to bat first. Though a couple of girls were caught and stumped out, the team managed a respectable 4.5 rounders. In the field, they worked hard and communicated well, managing to get six of the opposition out. However, at the end of the first innings the scores were 4.5 rounders to each team. The girls were eager to win and followed the half time advice to keep calm and focus. Their second innings allowed the girls to demonstrate their true capabilities and they secured a super seven rounders. In the field, the girls only allowed the Perse Girls to score 2.5 rounders in their second innings. Emily Aldridge demonstrated real calm in the field and Helena Hughes-Davies made a brilliant debut as bowler. The final score was 11.5-7 and The Prep thoroughly deserved to win; the girls worked brilliantly as a team and everyone played their part in the victory.
The B team started in a similarly positive manner, securing 6.5 rounders in their first innings. With Holly Jones at the helm they managed to hold the Perse Girls to six rounders, ensuring they started the second innings in the lead. The girls used their strong communication skills well in the second innings and there were some super displays of fielding; in particular, Soo Yeon Kim demonstrated an impressive long barrier and Florrie Clark showed off her bowling skills, giving away no half rounders for no balls! In bat, the B team took heed of their half time advice and started to take more risks; this resulted in a rounder each for Veniece and Maya Ramsay to add to the total score of 5.5 for the second innings. A special mention must be made to Year 5 pupil Sophie Smart who stepped in to play for the U11B team at the last minute. A valuable asset to any team, of the six balls she faced in the match, she scored five rounders – very well done! The final score was 12-11 to The Prep.
It was a super afternoon of rounders. The U11s really pulled out all the stops for their last competitive match representing The Prep!
