Jubilee Music and Drama Workshops
29 May 2012
The children at the Nursery and Pre-Prep have just completed three and a half days of music and drama workshops which culminated in a sharing enjoyed by the children, staff and parents alike.
Tim Yelland, English Touring Opera Education Artistic Associate, and Rachel Leach, a published children's composer and animateur for the London Symphony Orchestra, arrived on Tuesday morning and introduced the children to the theme – The Queen's Jubilee.
The children had plenty of ideas about the unusual gifts the Queen might like to receive and how they would get there.
Songs were composed, dances were choreographed and props were created in the classroom. On the final day, there was much anticipation from pupils and parents as each class performed. The Nursery corgis were very sorry for being naughty and biting the Queen's toes, and Reception cycled hard and knocked on the door several times to deliver letters from all over the world. Years 1 and 2 travelled near and far to find unusual presents.
The smiles on the faces of the children as they performed said it all – they had a fantastic time and were still singing about wanting "to see Her Majesty, on the balcony" as they went home!
