Over the Easter holidays, nine pupils and two teachers went to visit our new partner school, Mukonosou Comprehensive, near Kobe, Japan. During their tour, the group took part in a wide range of activities including day trips to Kyoto and Nara, visiting a number of different temples and shrines, witnessing a traditional Japanese wedding and participating in a Japanese cookery lesson, where the group learnt how to make sweet rice cakes with strawberries and green tea.
Time was also spent at Mukonosou Comprehensive, taking part in lessons and enjoying Japanese flower arranging, a tea ceremony, manga drawing and special industry lessons. The group was also very fortunate to schedule in a visit to meet the Mayor of Amagasaki, a visit which was then featured in the local newspaper!
During the final weekend, the Perse pupils spent their time individually with home-stay families, learning first-hand about Japanese life. Some went to a baseball game in Kobe to support the Hanshin Tigers, whilst others went to flea markets, a Japanese spa and Osaka Castle, or took part in Aikido (Japanese martial art) or Archery lessons.
