Girls U10 Rounders
U10 vs. St Faith's School
All of our Year 5 girls recently took part in their first rounders fixture of the season against St Faith's. Despite having had only one full training session (weather permitted!) the girls approached the game with a determined attitude. Both the A and B teams showed excellent fielding skills, particularly Aoife Carey on fourth post and Lois Frost as bowler. Although both teams were defeated, the girls had a great time and saw it as helpful preparation for their next fixture. Other stand-out players included big hitter Olivia Gusterson and long-barrier expert Alice Cameron. Well done to all involved.
U10 vs. St John's College Prep School
A few days later the girls faced a new opponent, St John's. At half time, the A team was down by two rounders due to a few too many risks being taken when batting and some ball fumbles in the field. Victory was within their reach but only if they wanted it more than St John's. Francesca Regnier-Wilson took an impressive catch off a high hit and Sophie Brierley really got the hang of stumping second post to prevent half rounders and getting lots of St John's girls out. Their composure and drive resulted in a triumphant victory of 8.5 rounders to 6.
The B team also fought hard to the very end and were only trailing by one rounder at half time. The players really began to understand the importance of team work and communication when fielding, leading to some impressive plays which got the St John's girls out. Francoise Dyer on fourth was always alert and Yu-Min Hahn showed impressive co-ordination on second. While the girls didn't win this time, their skills have significantly improved and they look forward to applying these in the upcoming rounders tournament.
