The end of the Easter term was extremely busy for the English and Drama department as a temporary move along Hills Road to The Junction Theatre took place for the staging of Anything Goes – the musical. The cast of forty-three students, from all year groups at the Upper, rehearsed long and hard throughout the Lent Term and were joined by a six-strong band for the opening night. The musical ran for three nights and was a tremendous success. The combination of Cole Porter's timeless music and the farcical, and at times hilarious, plot line all set on board a cruise liner made for a fabulous evening. Much fun was had by all as the cast pulled off multiple slick dance numbers and rousing show stoppers.
Special mention must be given to the strong principal cast members including Juliet Powell as Reno Sweeney, Niall Jackson as Billy Crocker casino and Emily Houghton as Hope Harcourt. They were ably supported by side-splitting performances from Michael Du as Moonface Martin, Christian Grabowski as Lord Evelyn Oakley and Aoife Cantrill as Erma.
The success of the show was a tribute to the hard work of all involved and many commented on the collaborative nature of the production, with students from all year groups supporting each other across the board.
