National Youth Choirs Gala Concert
On Easter Monday, seven Perse students who are members of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, sang in the Royal Albert Hall in the NYCGB Gala Concert to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics.
We performed ‘Worldsong’ conducted by NYCGB’s Music Director, Mike Brewer. This includes songs from every continent. The programme also featured the world premiere of a specially commissioned work ‘Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis’ by choral composer Sir John Tavener who was present at the event. For ‘Worldsong’ we were joined by 700 young singers from childrens' community choirs around the country.
In the lead up to this special event, the members of NYCGB took part in residential courses to work together on the programme. Our courses involve sectional and full choir rehearsals and musicianship classes, as well as social activities. NYCGB provides a fantastic choral experience to develop young singers. Courses are fun as well as hard work, and being in the choirs provides the opportunity to perform newly commissioned works in world-class venues. The experience of singing in the Royal Albert Hall to an audience of 6,000 people, was thrilling for everyone involved.
