Year 7 enjoy a classification workshop
26 Mar 2012
Zoolab recently visited the school to give a series of presentations to Year 7 students on the subject of Classification. The visit aimed to support the work the students had been doing in their Biology lessons enabling them to see some of the animals that are in the different Phyla and Classes. Students had the opportunity to handle giant African land snails (which can grow up to 30cm in length), stick insects, Madagascan hissing cockroaches and a beautiful Californian corn snake. They also observed at close quarters the Chilean Rose Tarantula and a rather inquisitive rat! The Year 7 students were all up for the challenge of holding the animals and looking at the different features which allow biologists to classify them. The visit was an excellent opportunity to support the teaching of the Classification topic.
