The Perse School

Varsity hockey match

23 Mar 2012

The Perse were invited to play Magdalene College School Oxford (MCS) in the Boys Hockey match prior to the recent Varsity hockey game.  MCS were undefeated coming into the match and took an early lead which they held onto until half time. The Perse were soon level from their first short corner of the match with a superb strike by Alex Mackaness.  The second half saw a fantastic team effort from The Perse with two more goals  added, another from Alex and one from James Perry. Despite all efforts MCS threw at The Perse our defence held strong with Sevi Hurrell outstanding in goal. Hugo Batley won Player of the Match and was awarded a new hockey stick from the president of the Varsity committee.

In the actual Varsity fixture Oxford retained the Varsity Trophy winning 5-2. In the Isis squad were two Old Perseans, Andrew Meredith and Duncan Graves, members of the school’s successful National Indoor teams (2006-2010).
