Chair project for Year 5

3 Feb 2012

In Design Technology, our budding Year 5 designers were given the brief to design and make a chair from recycled materials. The added challenge was to find and collect these materials!

After weeks of hunting through recycling bins, collecting, drawing plans and experimenting, the groups began their brave new DT venture.

In the following weeks, there was a buzz of productivity in the air and great excitement for the new materials, techniques and problem-solving. Materials ranged from simple cardboard, to car tyres, fabric, bamboo, corks and twine. Our groups, measured, cut, rolled, bound, folded, and weaved their way to success.

The results are innovative, exciting, original and beautifully made – well done Year 5! There is currently an exhibition of all of the chairs upstairs in New School.
