Matilda the Musical
27 Jan 2012
Thirty pupils in Year 7 were lucky enough to recently go on a trip to see 'Matilda the Musical' at The Cambridge Theatre in London. The Roald Dahl classic was transformed last year by comedian Tim Minchin, writer Dennis Kelly and the RSC to create a production that has all the magic, mischief and humour of the original book. The set upon entrance is astounding: the backdrop is made up of hundreds of coloured alphabet blocks that spell out some of the themes and words of the musical and this sets the precedent for a very colourful production in all respects. Particularly impressive were the performances from the ensemble of children who sang and danced to perfection and Matilda herself carried an enormous amount of presence for someone so small. A brilliant tribute to the power of the imagination and the perils of childhood.
