Year 6 enjoy a Greek Day
Year 6 took a step back in history when they enjoyed their very own Greek Day last week.
It’s the year 490BC and the Year 6 Athenian citizens and slaves gathered in the marketplace, awaiting news from the battlefield at Marathon. While they were waiting, they made mosaics, crushed olives to make oil for candles, put together medical concoctions to heal various illnesses and made wax tablets. Gossip spread throughout the agora: the Persian army was ten times the size of the Athenian Army and yet Miltiades still marched his army 26 miles to Marathon to fight!
In the afternoon, news spread of the victory so they had a symposium to celebrate the Athenian triumph over the invading Persian forces!
