Two musical performances have this week launched our concerts programme for the academic year.
On Tuesday 4 October, Alexander Harris gave the first of a new series of lunchtime concerts, designed for our most advanced musicians to give their own complete solo recital. Alexander, a Year 9 pupil and former winner of the U18 Outstanding Performance Prize at the Cambridge Music Festival, gave a complete performance of Grieg’s Violin Sonata No.2. This was a superb achievement for such a young pupil, and the concert was enjoyed by a pleasing number of other Perse pupils.
On Wednesday 5 October, around twenty music award holders gave an evening concert in the Music department performing a wide range of solo and duet repertoire. The concert achieved a very high standard, with some difficult repertoire performed successfully.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Martin Roscoe, an internationally-acclaimed concert pianist, to the department to give a series of masterclasses to some of our pianists.
