Gothic Horror Workshop
11 Oct 2011
On the evening of Monday 10 October, actor Rupert Mason visited the school as part of The Workshop Sessions to perform three classic tales of gothic horror.
Pupils and parents were chilled to core with stories from H.G. Wells, Charles Dickens and Edgar Allen Poe. With a simple backdrop, a table, chair and an ever-present flickering candle, Mason conjured up the phantoms, ghouls and fears that have set the heart racing ever since they were first told more than a century ago. Pupils studying GCSE drama were able to talk to Rupert about his performance after the show and were fascinated to discover just how one man could inhabit such a wide range of characters with apparent ease.
The Workshop Sessions are a series of workshops and performances run by professional practitioners within the school and are designed to supplement the Drama curriculum. Later this term, Lynn Quelch will return to run the Commedia dell’arte sessions that began during the last academic year.
