Summer 2011 Year 11 careers experience
6 Sep 2011
37 members of last year’s Year 11 spent part of their summer holidays gaining insights into the world of work.
Perse students undertook careers experience placements in a variety of highly-regarded companies and institutions where they were able to learn about the realities, challenges and excitements of jobs they hope to have in the future. The school was able to secure placements for many students, thanks in part to our good connections with Old Perseans, in advertising, auctioneering, banking and finance, care provision, education, electronics, engineering consultancy, general practice, law, market research, property consultancy, publishing and scientific manufacturing. Other students chose to arrange placements through their own family connections and spent time working with and learning from archaeologists, architects, forensic scientists, journalists, medics, lawyers, politicians (including an MP) and surveyors, amongst others. Most placements took place in Cambridge and London, but some students went further afield – in two cases, abroad! The school received excellent feedback on the students’ work experience placements and it seems that many placements were sorry to say goodbye to Perseans at the end of their time with them. All students involved, and the school as a whole, are very grateful to all those individuals and companies who took time to arrange and offer placements this summer and thereby gave Perseans such valuable experience of their possible future careers – and a real change from their preparations for IGCSE and GCSE examinations!
