Beyond the Classroom
Students regularly enjoy taking part in the challenging activities and expeditions of the Perse Exploration Society (PES).
The PES structure builds challenge step by step with all pupils trying outdoor pursuits as part of the timetabled curriculum in Year 7 with Base Camp sessions.
Many choose to continue exploring the great outdoors by joining Ascent Group in Year 8 and progress through to Summit 12.
During their adventure journey, students learn bushcraft, canoeing and mountaineering skills, along with how to work effectively in a team, how to lead and how to persevere when the going gets tough.
These adventures in some of the most remote places on earth are a highlight of pupils’ school career and a source of lifelong memories.
To ensure anyone can get involved, we offer societies for those who can commit to weekly training and expeditions through to open trips for those who simply want a one-off experience of outdoor adventure.
We have a full-time outdoor pursuits staff based in a dedicated centre at the Upper, allowing us to also run specialised clubs for archery, climbing, paddlesports and woodworking, plus Duke of Edinburgh Awards at Gold and Silver level.
