Welcome
Pelican School

The Pelican is a co-educational school for pupils aged 3 – 7 years.
Our approach to learning includes a range of play-based activities, as well as more formal methods of learning as the children progress through the school.
Every day we create an encouraging and supportive environment where Pelican children develop their confidence, curiosity and a passion for learning.
We want our children to be able to work independently, as well as be part of a team. We encourage Pelicans to learn our school values and reflect them in their learning and their friendships.
We have around 150 children in our school who are taught and cared for by a dedicated, well-qualified staff. Our Nursery caters for up to 24 children per session with a ratio of one adult to every eight children.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 usually have 20 children in each class with a teacher and teaching assistant.
Most children join our school at the beginning of the academic year in September.
Our Pelican School is led by our Head, Francesca Heftman.
The pupils’ attitudes to work are outstanding. They are positive, focused and engaged and have a strong desire to learn.

Our Nursery
This is our main entry point into the school and we offer up to 32 places each year.
All children are three years old by 1 September in the year of entry and attend a minimum of three full days a week. Children may attend four or five full days if space allows.

Reception
We offer around ten places each year to external applicants who join children progressing from our Nursery.
Children must be four years old by 1 September in the year of entry.

Years 1 and 2
Occasionally places arise in Years 1 and 2 and we hold a waiting list of children who would like to be considered.
