Future Facilities

We are committed to continually developing our school facilities to offer Perse pupils the best possible educational experience.
During 2023-24 our major projects include:
- Build a new swimming pool, sports centre and climbing wall.
- Increase the number of science labs we have at the Upper School and refurbish existing labs.
- Add an additional floor onto our Design and Technology building, providing office space for support staff functions and thereby creating additional classrooms for pupils on the Upper school site.
Swimming Pool, Sports Centre and Climbing Wall

The new sports facilities will be used by Prep and Upper children, as well as being available for public use, as part of our commitment to community benefit.
You can follow the progress of the build and see what is happening on the site via a time-lapse video here or for the most up-to date images click here.
Facilities include a six-lane 25-metre swimming pool, sports hall and climbing wall with bouldering opportunities. For a bird’s eye view, click here.
For a flavour of what the sports centre and swimming pool will look like once completed, take a look at this 3D walk-through below.
Our existing climbing wall will be replaced with an extension to the current fitness suite. The new complex will be built on our Long Road field, with access to the public being made available via Long Road. The project began during Easter 2023 and will run until late 2024. Our main contractor is Willmott Dixon and the architect is Saunders Boston Architects.
If you represent a local sports club and would like to find out more about hiring the facilities once they are open, please contact Sam Fuller-Nelis at sfullernelis@perse.co.uk

Science labs
The science building will be extended and reconfigured, creating two additional labs and refurbishing seven existing labs. New preparation and storage rooms will also be created. Following completion of the project, the school will have a total of seven physics, seven biology and seven chemistry labs on the Upper site.
The project is being undertaken with sustainability at its heart and will include 93 new solar panels on the building. Building work has been carefully programmed to minimise disruption to lessons. It will also create a new main entrance to the science centre from Ellison Court.
The project is due to run from Summer 2023 – Summer 2024.

New office spaces and new classrooms
A first floor will be added to our design and technology building providing additional office space for a number of our support staff functions. This will create additional space on the main school site, which will be used to provide new spaces for teaching and learning. Our contractor for this project is TJ Evers. The project is due to be completed in December 2023.

Taking a sustainable approach
We take sustainability very seriously and intend for all our new buildings to be as energy efficient as possible. Our new swimming pool will use a microfiltration system to clean and filter the water, ensuring cleaner water and reduced water usage. We intend for the building to receive a BREEAM ‘excellent’ accreditation, which is awarded when a building has a very high level of energy efficiency.
Other new buildings, like our Design and Technology block and new science buildings will also be energy efficient with Solar electricity panels, also known as photovoltaics (PV), to capture the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity. Our new and refurbished science labs will use high efficacy LED lighting and will incorporate daylight dimming and absence detection with controllable zoned lighting.
