In 2013 girls cricket was introduced into the games programme and in 2014 it became one of the major games options for girls.
Our cricket structure is evolving with the growing popularity and success of women’s cricket. We have introduced a programme of developing and practising key skills, with a focus on engagement through small conditioned games. In addition we have structured and focused nets sessions for all pupils to ensure they specialise and progress in their techniques.
In 2016, England Test cricket captain Alastair Cook gave a batting masterclass at the School, sharing tips on technique as he responded to balls from our top male and female bowlers.
Looking to the future we hope to be in a strong position to play against representative teams such as the MCC women’s – a tradition that the boys have taken part in for many years at The Perse.
The Perse fields hardball team at U13, U14, U15 and 1st team level. Alongside this are softball teams to cater for all abilities and interests in the game.
We have created and administered an U13 (softball pairs format) and U15 (hardball 15 overs) league against other schools in the East of England including St Faiths, King’s Ely, Framlingham, Felsted and Uppingham.
The U15 XI enter the School Sport Magazine 20/20 Cup, and the U13 and U15 squads enter the Lady Taverners Indoor Competition. In addition the U12, U13 and U13 teams enter the Cambridgeshire Inter cricket competitions every year.
