||This group aims to develop students’ outdoor skills, cultural understanding and teamwork skills in preparation for a three-week international expedition to a mountainous location.
||There is a strong focus on student leadership. The group is divided into groups known as ‘Fires’ which are headed up by student ‘Fire Leaders’.
||Meetings are held fortnightly during school time, on the Enrichment afternoon. Here students learn all of the skills required for the year’s field weekends and expedition.
||Each year, Summit 12 completes three main trips: a field weekend during the Michaelamas term, a field weekend during the Lent term and a summer expedition in July. On the first field weekend, students learn mountaineering and first aid, learning how to work as a team and how to respond to unexpected challenges. The second field weekend usually takes place in the Cairngorms where they take part in challenging day hikes and learn about winter mountaineering skills as well as further first aid training. The summer expeditions can last up to four weeks, with past expeditions visiting Ecuador, Kenya and the Indian Himalayas. Here students take part in charity work with the local community and trek at high altitudes.
