Religious Studies & Philosophy
What will your child study?
The department recognises its contribution to developing the thinking skills of all pupils, but especially those of the younger members of the school. To this end all Year 7 pupils partake in an introductory workshop which focuses on the skills needed to describe, explain, and evaluate ideas and concepts before focussing on specifically Religious Studies related content.
In the Lower School the department aims to develop pupils’ empathy skills by asking them to step into the shoes of religious believers of many faiths.
Year 7 pupils study: Â Places of worship in Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism.
Year 8 pupils study: The fundamentals of the Hindu faith, elements of Buddhism, an Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics, and the Justness of War.
How will they be assessed?
Pupils are assessed through marked homework, extended projects, oral contributions in lessons, and end of year exams.
