In Year 11 pupils have the opportunity to join the Academy strand of PE. The goal of Academy PE is to educate and challenge pupils’ thinking regarding training and leadership in sport. It gives pupils tools to use in their own sporting performance at school but also long-term where the hope is that they will enjoy sport and understand how they can perform at a high level.

Pupils learn about fitness and training programmes in greater depth. They design and implement a training programme of their choice where they can specialise and develop fitness components.

Leadership is also developed when pupils take on coaching and officiating roles. Improving on-field communication is a key goal.

The Academy is taught through practical means. It is a great taster for students looking to study Physical Education at A level.
