Spanish
What will your child study?
In the Middle School pupils study the Edexcel IGCSE course, a well-structured course with terminal assessment, which we believe is both challenging and stimulating and provides an excellent platform for A level studies. In Year 11 the course is assessed based on a Listening Comprehension Paper and a Reading and Writing Paper. In addition to this there is a separately graded oral examination which pupils must sit. Pupils can either embark on a continuers’ course if they have already studied Spanish in Year 8 or can choose it as an option and start as beginners, which is an intensive and fast-paced course.
In Year 9 we study topics such as: Food and Drink, Travel and Transport, Environment, Past and Future Tenses
In Year 10 we study topics such as: Leisure Activities, Holidays, School, Daily Routine, Pronouns, Conjunctions
In Year 11 we study topics such as: Employment and Careers, Health and Well-being, Accidents, Future Plans, Introduction to the Subjunctive.
How will they be assessed?
Pupils will be assessed during the three years through marked homework, vocabulary tests, practice papers and end of unit tests.
Oral Language Lessons
We are fortunate to have a specialist Oral Language teacher who works specifically on improving the fluency and authenticity of the pupils’ Spanish. In Years 10 and 11 pupils have the opportunity to work in small groups in order to achieve this.
