History

Duxford 2011

What will your child study ?

In Year 9 Perse pupils from Year 8 are joined by boys and girls from a variety of schools who have studied different periods of history.

The main areas of study in this year are:

  • The Age of Revolution and Empire: key aspects of British and European history in the 18th and 19th centuries
  • The Era of the Second World War: an in-depth study of this key event in modern history which provides important background for the IGCSE course

During Year 9 pupils make the choice as to whether to continue to IGCSE.

In 2011-12 History is the most popular option in Year 10 with 113 pupils taking it.

In Years 10 and 11 we follow Edexcel’s IGCSE course 4H10. This is a more rigorous and challenging option than conventional GCSE courses.

This specification has a wide choice of options. We currently cover:

  • The First World War 1914-18
  • Development of Dictatorship: Germany 1918-45
  • A World Divided: Superpower Relations 1945-1962
  • Changes in Medicine c1845-c1945

A Middle School History Society meets regularly to hear presentations by members.

How will they be assessed ?

Pupils are assessed by marked homework, tests and regular common assessments based on IGCSE criteria.

There is a full IGCSE mock in Year 11.

The IGCSE course is assessed by an exam at the end of the two year course: there is no coursework.
