Biology
What will your child study?
Children from a young age develop a fascination with all things biological. Their interest may be with the human body or the natural world (honed by David Attenborough!) and we aim to cultivate and nurture this love of Biology during the Lower School years. In Years 7 and 8 we aim to give pupils a wide exposure to different aspects of Biology and for them to appreciate the wonderful world of living organisms. These courses include as much practical work as possible and pupils will find themselves examining the histology of cells and making their own cell models, extracting DNA from peas and becoming a Crime Scene Investigators when studying genetics!
Year 7
Cells and microscope work, Experimental design, Evolution, Classification, Ecology, Flowering plant reproduction
Year 8
Photosynthesis, Support and movement, Human reproduction, Genetics, Microbiology, Conservation
How will they be assessed?
After each topic is completed pupils will take an end of topic test based on the work covered in that topic. Pupils will have at least one piece of homework to revise and prepare for this test. At the end of the year pupils in both Years 7 and 8 take an end of year examination which will be based on work studied throughout the year.
