Tennis experiences high levels of participation in the Summer term. We coach our teams predominantly in doubles match play and some singles. Pupils playing tennis are organised into groups; the team squad, the recreational squad and the life skill squad. The life skill squad has been set up to give absolute beginners a chance to learn to play at a young age. We have 18 tennis courts available to the students during the Summer Term.

Coaching staff

The tennis staff are experienced coaches and we are able to deliver a tennis programme for all levels. All pupils receive tennis coaching irrespective of whether or not they are in the school team.

Teams

There are tennis teams in every age group with a regular fixture list. The number of pupils that play in the school team depends on the number of pairs our opponents can field. The school enters the National Schools Team Competition in the Lower and Middle School for both girls and boys. Last season the boys' team won the County Competition. The Year 10 boys' team and the Year 9 girls' team all had unbeaten seasons last summer.

Tours

The tennis teams have not yet toured but there are pre-season opportunities after the Lent half-term break. We try to host as many overseas tours as possible. Last year we played a very strong Australian school from Melbourne and we hope to receive more schools in the future.

Talented individuals

The Perse is very fortunate to be very well located to Cambridgeshire’s High Performance Centre on Hills Road, a number of our pupils have adapted timetables to enable them to receive expert coaching at the centre whilst sustaining their academic studies at school.
