A wide programme of groups and ensembles takes place on a weekly basis and at any one time there are around 65 coached/directed groups in operation. These include a Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra (senior and junior), two Wind Bands, a Big Band, four jazz bands and a plethora of string quartets, guitar groups, cello groups, flute groups, oboe/cor anglais groups, clarinet choirs, saxophone ensembles, 10-piece brass ensemble, brass bands, horn octet and trombone choir.

We also have four jazz bands covering the entire age range and students can gain the opportunity to learn about improvisation from an expert jazz coach.

For singing, we have a full choir/chorus (regularly supplemented by our Friends of Perse Choir), a Senior Chorale and a Year 7 choir. The latter takes place during Thursday registration and assembly on a fortnightly rotation but is a chance for all Year 7 pupils to gain some experience in en masse singing and perform towards Christmas. After this point, pupils may opt out if they so wish.

All of our small ensembles are coached by members of the peripatetic staff with expertise in the relevant instrument. We aim for all groups to have regular performing opportunities throughout the year in a busy programme of both external and internal events.
