Sixth Form Scholarship Entrance Tests

Sixth Form Scholarship Entrance Tests

Saturday 22 November 2008

The main points of entry to the School are at 11+ (First Year – Year 7) where there are 72 places available, 13+ (Third Year – Year 9) where we have around 24 places, and at 16+ (Lower Sixth – Year 12) where we offer up to 60 places to both boys and girls.

In 2010 as part of our co-education and expansion programme, we will increase the number of places available at 11+ to 96 and 13+ to 48, and make them available to both boys and girls.

Occasionally places may become available in other year groups, and parents are welcome to contact the Head’s PA (Mrs Karen Gibson) to enquire about these.

Application for places at 11+ and 13+

Parents of children considering an application to The Perse are encouraged to make an appointment with the Head’s PA (email:  kgibson@perse.co.uk or telephone 01223 403800) to visit the school.  The visit will consist of a 30 minute pupil led tour of the school which provides an opportunity to see The Perse in action, and to find out from pupils what life here is really like.  The tour is followed by a 30 minute meeting with the Head or one of his Deputies.

All prospective 11+ and 13+ parents and pupils are encouraged to attend our Open Morning on the last Saturday in September which gives an excellent overview of what a Perse education has to offer.

Parents wishing to enter their children for the 11+ and 13+ Entrance Tests should do so by completing a registration form by the end of December in the year prior to entry.  11+ and 13+ entrance tests are held on the last Saturday in January in the year of entry (Saturday 26th January 2008 for a September 2008 start).  We aim to notify applicants of the outcome of the entry procedures by February half term.

Applications for places at 16+

Prospective Sixth Form applicants are encouraged to attend the Sixth Form Open Evening and fireworks display early in November (Monday 3rd November 2008).  All prospective applicants will receive a Sixth Form prospectus at the Open Evening, and will have the opportunity to talk to current pupils and teachers about The Perse Sixth Form.  Pupils wishing to take their application further should complete a registration form.  They will then be asked to come in for an individual visit and interviews.  Applications to the Sixth Form are considered on a pooled basis. Pupils are encouraged to apply by Wednesday 19th November 2008 to be considering in the first round for 2009 entry. All round one candidates will be interviewed in early December with offers made by the end of the Michaelmas Term. Pupils applying after Wednesday 19th November will be considered in a second application round with interviews in January provided there are still places available after the end of round one.

Prospective Sixth Form applicants wishing to be considered for a Sixth Form Scholarship should note the date of the Sixth Form Scholarship test which is Saturday 22nd November 2008 (closing date for scholarship application: Wednesday 19th November 2008).

Prospective pupils with disability

Subject to the physical constraints of our buildings, we welcome applications from prospective pupils with disabilities.  However, it is very helpful if parents can discuss any disability with us in advance of visits, Open Days, entrance tests and subsequent entry so that reasonable adjustments to our systems and procedures can be made.

Overseas Pupils

The Perse does not have any boarding accommodation and therefore cannot accept applications from overseas pupils under the age of 16 without a parent or legal guardian resident in the Cambridge area. We do consider applications from overseas pupils for places in the Sixth Form whose guardianship arrangements have been approved by the School. We have a close relationship with Cambridge Guardians through whom such arrangements should be made.  Please contact  Mrs Rebecca Clarke at:  rhclarke@cambridgeguardians.co.uk
