We follow the AQA exam syllabus which has a classic content mix with contemporary and stimulating material.
The four AS topics are:
- Media – television, advertising, communication technology
- Popular culture – cinema, music, fashion/trends
- Healthy living/lifestyle – sport/exercise, health and well-being, holidays
- Family/relationships – relationships within the family, friendships, marriage/partnerships
Assessment
Unit 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing (2 hours)
70% of AS mark, 35% of A level
110 marks
Unit 2 – Speaking test (35 mins, including 20 mins preparation)
30% of AS, 15% of A level
50 marks
Oral language lessons
With the oral making up a high percentage of the assessment at both AS and A2 level, students have a weekly lesson in pairs with the Oral Language teacher which gives them an excellent opportunity to progress quickly and to focus in detail on the examination requirements.
